Muscle is the secret sauce to a longer and stronger existence. Building more of it is what keeps our physical frame not only looking young but acting it as well. It is the infrastructure that holds the key to all kinds of activities – from climbing stairs to playing with children, hiking with a partner, maneuvering around accidents, being able to lift household objects, and preventing falls – that ultimately lead to a better life. A major reason muscle is so critical is the necessity of muscle mass for our bones. Muscle is a bone’s best friend, acting as a cushion and a protector.
More muscle is linked to better sleep, stronger bones, sharper brain function, and even a longer life. Yet we naturally lose it as we age. The good news? We can rebuild it, even in our later years. Strength training is no longer optional; it’s essential.
